The youngest of Collingwood’s selections in the 2016 AFLW Draft, Ruby was recruited from East Fremantle FC as one of the competition’s most promising emerging key position players. Making the move from Perth with ease, she transitioned seamlessly into AFLW life after previously pursuing a pathway in the US College basketball system before committing fully to football.
Ruby showed rapid development throughout her first AFLW season and elected to remain in Melbourne over winter, playing VFLW with the St Kilda Sharks to further build her craft. The extra work paid dividends in 2018, despite injury setbacks including a serious concussion. She made a full recovery and took another step forward in 2019.
Returning to Perth during the 2019 off-season, Ruby put in a huge body of work to prepare for 2020. After a strong start, she unfortunately suffered a broken wrist which ruled her out for the remainder of the season. Undeterred, she once again committed herself to improvement and emerged as one of the league’s biggest improvers in 2021, showcasing dash and drive off half-back. Her efforts were rewarded with her first All-Australian selection.
A breakout season followed in 2022, where Ruby transitioned into the Magpies’ midfield and took her game to new heights. Collecting her second All-Australian blazer, she firmly established herself as a pivotal player and leader within Collingwood and across the AFLW competition.
After overcoming injury interruptions in 2023, Ruby produced an outstanding 2024 campaign, claiming Collingwood’s Best & Fairest. She continued her strong form into 2025, leading the side from the front as captain with consistent high level performances.
Off the field, Ruby works at Fox Footy across multiple roles, including appearances on AFL Tonight and The Bounce, boundary riding AFL matches, and providing special comments for AFLW games. She is also a regular contributor on Triple M Radio and a brand ambassador for Adidas and AFLW. With her engaging personality and natural presence, Ruby has quickly become one of the rising stars of AFLW media.
