Olivia Purcell is an explosive midfielder whose rise through the ranks has been defined by elite performance, resilience and leadership. Coming off a terrific 2018 season, there was little Olivia didn’t achieve with winning the Geelong Falcons Best & Fairest, representing Vic Country, and earning selection as both an All Australian and in the TAC Cup Team of the Year. Adding to an outstanding junior campaign, she also featured in Geelong’s maiden VFLW Grand Final appearance against Box Hill, a huge achievement at such a young age.

Unsurprisingly, Geelong swooped in at the AFLW Draft, selecting Purcell and welcoming her into their AFLW program. Olivia made an immediate impact in her debut season, driving standards among her young teammates and earning a Rising Star nomination, while finishing runner-up in the club’s Best & Fairest.

After a big off-season, Liv returned in 2020 bigger and better, claiming Geelong’s Best & Fairest and being named in the AFLW All Australian Team, cementing herself as one of the competition’s brightest midfield stars. She started the 2021 season strongly before suffering an ACL injury that sidelined her for 12 months. At the conclusion of the season, Liv was traded to Melbourne, where she has since continued to establish herself as a key contributor, including being part of the Demons’ premiership-winning side.

The second youngest of five sisters, Olivia grew up on the Surf Coast, attending Sacred Heart College and playing her junior football for St Mary’s. Her competitive spirit, work ethic and passion for the game continue to drive her success at the highest level.
