Lucy McEvoy is built to make both an immediate and long term impact at AFLW level. A natural ball winner with a fierce competitive streak, clubs found it difficult to split Lucy and Gabby Newton in the draft, with Carlton ultimately securing her services as the No.2 overall pick in the 2019 AFLW Draft.

A product of the Geelong Falcons, Lucy was dominant across her final two junior seasons, representing both the Falcons and Vic Country, where she showcased her elite ball use, composure and versatility. Faced with a tough decision ahead of the draft on whether to nominate for Geelong only or all of Victoria, Lucy chose to make herself available statewide, keen to move to Melbourne and commence her Paramedics degree.

Lucy’s early AFLW career was impacted by COVID disruptions, and she endured a tough start to the 2021 season after suffering a facial fracture in a pre-season incident.

Across 2022, Lucy continued to develop at Carlton, rotating between midfield and half-back roles and showcasing her strong kicking, intercept work and contested ball ability. Ahead of the 2023 season, she joined the Sydney Swans as a priority signing and was immediately entrusted with leadership responsibilities, being named co-captain in the club’s inaugural AFLW season.

Lucy has since become a cornerstone of Sydney’s playing group. Throughout the 2024 and 2025 seasons, she remained a consistent and influential presence across defence and midfield, using her elite reading of the play, intercept marking and clean ball movement to drive the Swans’ transition game. In 2025, she produced several standout performances, underlining her growing influence and leadership within the group.

A natural leader with elite versatility, Lucy McEvoy continues to shape Sydney’s AFLW identity and remains one of the competition’s most dependable and composed performers.
