Alyssa Bannan is a powerful key forward for the Melbourne Football Club and one of the competition’s most exciting young talents. Selected with Pick 5 in the 2020 AFLW Draft, Melbourne’s first selection that year, Alyssa entered a side already established as one of the league’s most consistent teams. After limited match play due to Victoria’s COVID restrictions throughout 2020, she committed to a strong pre-season to earn her opportunity at senior level.
Alyssa made her AFLW debut in 2021 and was one of the few draft picks to feature in every game of her debut season, quickly proving a handful for opposition defenders with her athleticism, forward pressure and goal sense. She built strongly on that foundation in 2022, enjoying a breakout year that included starring roles throughout the finals series and playing a key part in Melbourne’s Season 7 Premiership triumph.
In 2023, Alyssa continued to cement herself as a core member of the Demons’ line-up, playing all 12 games, including two finals, and further developing her influence inside 50 earning herself selection in the AFLPA 22Under22 squad.
Alyssa carried her momentum into 2024, featuring in 11 matches and finishing as Melbourne’s leading goalkicker, before backing it up with another strong campaign in 2025, where she played 14 games and remained a focal point of the Demons’ forward structure. Along the way, she also became the youngest player in AFLW history to reach 50 games.
With her contested marking, work rate and competitive edge, Alyssa continues to establish herself as one of Melbourne’s most important attacking assets and a key figure in the club’s future.
